Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Corporal Aubrey Clement Wear was born at Perth in October 1896. He was one of four sons and three daughters of James William and Amy Elizabeth Wear.
No details of his education are known but he was employed at McIlwraith McEacharn Ltd, a shipping firm, after formal schooling.
He enlisted on 4 October 1915 and was allocated to 1 to 8 reinforcements of 28 battalion.
After initial training at Blackboy Hill Military Camp, he embarked on HMAT Medic at Fremantle in January 1916, bound for the war in Europe.
In 1916, as part of 2 Australian division the unit took part in major battles at Pozieres and later in confused and costly fighting to the east of Flers in the Somme valley.
In 1917, fighting occurred in the third phase of the Battle of Menin Road and later the Battle of Poelcappelle in early October 1917.
Aubrey was wounded in action at or near Passchendaele and was evacuated to hospital.
Corporal Aubrey Clement Wear, service number 3305 of 28 battalion, died of wounds at 3 Canadian casualty clearing station, Remy Siding, Belgium on 29 October 1917.
He was 21 years of age and is interred in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Lijssenthoek, Flanders, Belgium.
