Biography presented during plaque dedication:

Private Robert John Thompson was born on 7 July 1879 at Ballymoney, County Antrim Northern Ireland.

His parents James and Rose Thompson also had two other sons and three daughters. It is not known when they came to Western Australia but they took up farming at Green Hills.

Robert and his youngest brother Samuel both enlisted in World War 1 - Samuel in August 1915 and Robert in March 1916.

Samuel was in 11 Battalion and was wounded twice but survived the war and he also served in World War 2.

Following initial training at Blackboy Hill Military Camp, Robert was posted overseas.

In January 1917 he was taken on strength of 28 Battalion and in September 1917 was attached to the brigade snipers.

Private Robert Thompson, service number 5442 of 28 Battalion, was killed in action at Morlancourt France on 10 June 1918. He was 38 years of age.

He is buried at Franvillers Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

His plaque is located alongside his relative Private William Barnsley who was killed in action at Gallipoli in October 1915.
