Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Corporal James Brian Jones, who was known as Brian to his family, was the son of Bowen and Edith Jones who lived at Subiaco.
He had a brother Kevin and four sisters. He was trained as a radio service mechanic.
Brian enlisted into the militia on 20 December 1941 and then began full time duty with the Signals Corps on 7 January 1942.
In July 1942, he was transferred to Queensland and on to New Guinea in August. He was promoted to acting corporal on 8 May 1942 and the promotion was confirmed on 30 April 1943.
On 20 June 1943, he was the victim of a serious accident which resulted in burns to forty per cent of his body. Tragically, he did not survive.
Corporal James Brian Jones, service number WX28922 of 11 Division Signals Company, died of injuries at Port Moresby, New Guinea on 25 June 1943.
He was 20 years of age and is buried at Bomana War Cemetery, Port Moresby, New Guinea.
His plaque is placed alongside those of known relatives, Lieutenant Bartholomew Stubbs of 51 Battalion and Corporal Horace Allen of 52 Battalion.
