Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Trooper Heinrich Carl Ludwig Ruwoldt was the son of Joachim Ludwig and Sophia Ruwoldt.
He was born at Mount Gambier, South Australia on 16 April 1885 and had five brothers and five sisters.
He attended school in Mount Gambier and then worked as a contractor in the farming industry.
During his working time at Mount Gambier, he served for three years with 16 Light Horse Regiment.
The family then moved to Perth and Heinrich enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force.
He was allocated to 10 Light Horse Regiment, no doubt because of his previous service with the 16 Light Horse Regiment at Mount Gambier.
His military training was at Blackboy Hill Military Camp. On completion, he embarked at Fremantle on HMAT Mashobra on 8 February 1915.
In May 1915, he was wounded at Gallipoli, suffering leg and arm injuries. On recovery, he returned to Gallipoli on 24 August 1915.
Trooper Heinrich Carl Ludwig Ruwoldt, service number 337 was killed in action at Lone Pine, Gallipoli on 29 August 1915. He was 29 years of age.
His name appears on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsular.
His plaque is placed alongside that of known relative, Private Theo Varian of 51 Battalion.
