Ordinary Seaman Lawrence Herbert Bowron F3740 (1922-1942, born Bebverley, Western Australia) enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy at Fremantle, Western Australia, on 2 June 1941 and was trained as a Seaman at His Majesty’s Australian Ship (HMAS) Cerberus, Victoria. He was assigned to HMAS Canberra 30 May 1942. On 9 August 1942 during the Battle of Savo Island, HMAS Canberra was hit and disabled by Japanese torpedoes and gunfire, killing or fatally wounding 11 officers and 74 sailors and airmen including Ordinary Seaman Bowron, resulting in the Canberra being abandoned and the wreck sunk by the United States Navy.

Ordinary Seaman Bowron has no known grave and his Official Memorial is the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon, United Kingdom, where his name is shown on Panel 75 Column 3. His Roll of Honour is Quairading, Western Australia.

His honour plaque in Kings Park was dedicated by his brother in May 2000. He is the son of Charles Bowron (1890-1933) and Margaret Martha Matildia Bowron (nee Endersby) (1899-1989) of Leederville, Western Australia.

Ordinary Seaman Bowron is remembered with honour.
