Able Seaman Peter Septimus Utting F3485 (1923-1945, born Moulmein, Burma (Myanmar)) enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy at Fremantle, Western Australia, on 10 March 1941 and was trained as a Seaman at His Majesty’s Australian Ship (HMAS) Cerberus, Victoria. He joined HMAS Australia on 15 July 1942. On 6 January 1945 while on operations in the Lingayen Gulf, Philippines, HMAS Australia was hit by a Kamikaze aircraft and suffered 28 fatalities including Able Seaman Utting.
Able Seaman Utting has no known grave and his official memorial is the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon, United Kingdom, where his name is shown on Panel 95, Column 3. His Roll of Honour is Cottesloe, Western Australia.
His Honour Plaque in Kings Park was dedicated by his family on 1 August 1999. He is the son of James Horatio Utting (1880-1950) and Elna Utting (nee Haswell) (1886-1966) of Cottesloe. He is the brother of Richard Haynes Utting (killed in action) and the nephew of Philip Edward Utting 36 (killed in action).
