Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Pilot Officer Victor Robert Campbell was born in Perth on 24 May 1914.
Before enlisting, he was undertaking night study in architecture and worked during the day as a draftsman at the Perth Modelling Works.
Victor was a keen swimmer and surfer and had built his own surfboard for surfing at Scarborough beach.
He enlisted in the Air Force in May 1942 and was accepted into the Empire Air Training scheme and went to Canada.
Prior to his leaving, daughter Gail was born to wife Betty and he was to become the grandfather of five and the great grandfather of seven children.
Victor Campbell was posted to 57 RAAF squadron which flew Lancasters from England. This was a unique crew with three of the four RAAF personnel coming from Perth. They flew 33 sorties together.
On 21 March 1945 they did not return from a mission over Halle. He was 30 years of age.
