Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Private Francis Briggs of 12 Battalion was born in 1893 in Windsorton Cape Province in South Africa where his father was a station-master.
He had a brother, Private Frederick Briggs, and three sisters. The family moved back to the UK in 1904 and then to Western Australia in 1908-09.
Francis, who had received a medal from Worcestershire County Council for unbroken school attendance in 1906-07, enlisted at East Beverley and was posted to D company 12 Battalion.
His company was one of the first to go ashore at Gallipoli and he was initially posted as missing but was later listed as killed in action on 25 April 1915. He was 21 years old.
