Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Private Frederick William Briggs of 51 Battalion was born in 1892 in Windsorton Cape Province in South Africa where his father was station-master.
He had a brother, Private Francis Briggs, and three sisters. The family moved back to the UK in 1904 and then to Western Australia in 1908-09.
Frederick followed his father's career in the Western Australian Railways and became a locomotive fireman.
He enlisted and sailed on the 'Ulysses' from Fremantle in November 1915 for Egypt and France.
Originally he was with 28 Battalion but was later posted to 51 Battalion.
He was killed in action at Fleurbaix in France on 5 July 1916, aged 23.
