The 2/3rd Machine Gun Battalion Association D Company dedicated the honour plaque on 1 August 1999.

D Company of the Battalion was raised in Western Australia. The Battalion fought against Vichy French Forces in Syria in 1941 and most of the Battalion including D Company was then sent to Java to in the face of the Japanese advance in early 1942 and briefly fought there in early March before being taken prisoners of war. The definitive history of the Battalion, From Snow to Jungle, was written by former Battalion member John Mitchell Bellair VX9702 (1909-2001, born Hawthorn Victoria) and published in 1987. The soldiers of 2/3rd Machine Gun Battalion are remembered with honour.
