Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Private Laidley Edwin Elbert Jones of 16 Battalion, or Ted as he was known, was born at Leederville in 1894.
He was one of five children, two boys and three girls, born to Walter and Elizabeth Jones of Bourke Street, Leederville.
After leaving school he worked as a farm labourer and also spent five months with 86 infantry.
He enlisted in early February 1915 at Perth and commenced training at Blackboy Hill Military Camp with 2 Reinforcement of 16 Battalion.
Three weeks later he embarked on HMAT Itonus at Fremantle bound for Gallipoli.
Private Laidley Edwin Elbert Jones, service number 1552 of 16 Battalion, was killed in action at Gallipoli on the first of May 1915, just three months after he enlisted. He was 20 years of age.
