Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Private Henry Thompson of 51 Battalion was born in April 1886 at Dubbo, New South Wales. He was the eldest of three girls and three boys born to Henry and Rebecca Thompson who lived at Lionel Street, Lion Mill.
He attended Dubbo state school and after the family moved to Western Australia in 1895, he attended Victoria Park state school.
After leaving school, he lived at Cecil Street, Victoria Park and worked as a tailor for twelve years with Jas. J. Coultas of Perth.
Henry enlisted at Perth in July 1915 and was posted to 5 Reinforcements of 28 Battalion at Blackboy Hill Military Camp.
In October, he sailed from Fremantle on HMAT Themistocles for Suez and joined 51 Battalion at Tel el Kebir.
In June 1916 Henry embarked on HMT Ivernia at Alexandria for Marseilles. His company launched attacks on what was known as Fabeck Graben trench systems.
Private Henry Edmund Thompson, service number 2458 of 51 Battalion, was killed in action at Mouquet Farm on 14 August 1916. He was 30 years of age.
His plaque will be placed alongside the plaque of Private Jack Harburn of 51 Battalion, who is a relative by marriage and who was killed in action at Mouquet Farm on 16 August 1916.
