Biography presented during plaque dedication:

Private William Bounsell of 16 Battalion was born at Hillgrove New South Wales in 1892. He had a brother and two sisters and their parents were Samuel and Elizabeth Bounsell.

Samuel ran a general store at Hillgrove and was the mortician, tobacconist and boot-maker. They then went to Black Flag in 1895, Elizabeth having died in 1892 giving birth to William.

In 1898 the family moved from New South Wales to Kunanalling and William attended school there. After leaving school he worked as labourer, stockman and butcher.

In February 1915 he enlisted at Coolgardie and after training at Blackboy Hill Military Camp sailed from Fremantle on HMAT Hororata bound for Gallipoli, where he was taken on strength of 16 Battalion.

Private William Bounsell, service number 1982 of 16 Battalion, was killed in action at Gallipoli on 8 August 1915. He was 24 years of age.
