Biography abstract:
The 28 Battalion withdrew to Egypt in December 1915 and then in March 1916 moved to France and the Western Front. During 1916 and early 1917 28 Battalion was involved in many major engagements, including the battles of Pozieres, Flers and then Bullecourt.
Private Charles Edwin Bamford, service number 5558 of 28 Battalion, was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 May 1917. He was 34 years of age.
His plaque is placed alongside Lance Corporal David James Lacey Gaston, who was in the same 28 Battalion and died on the same day.
Research has identified an error on this plaque which may be amended in due course.
