The Subiaco Sub-Branch of the Returned Sailors’ and Soldiers’ Imperial League of Australia (now the Returned and Services League) dedicated the honour plaque in memory of their Fallen Comrades on Sunday 5 December 1920. The plaque appears on the programme for the dedication of 270 plaques scheduled for Sunday 11 November 1920, but a contemporary newspaper article states that the plaque was separately dedicated four weeks later with the ceremony performed by Brigadier Mackey of the Salvation Army. The plaque was positioned in the May Drive Honour Avenue Saw Avenue intersection, but in 2011 was moved to its current location to be with the other unit plaques which were dedicated in April 1966. Up to 1966, the Subiaco Plaque was the only unit plaque in the Honour Avenues.
The Roll of Honour for the Subiaco has been created using Subiaco as the Place of Association identified by next-of-kin and recorded when the Australian War Memorial was compiling the National Roll of Honour. It would not have possible to generate this Roll at the time the plaque was dedicated as the information was still being collected. However, by 1923, it was possible to create a Roll and the Subiaco Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial at the corner of Rokeby and Hamersley Roads, Subiaco, shows a Roll of Honour and was dedicated on 25 November 1923. The lists of names on the Rolls may differ due to the methodologies used.
The Fallen Comrades of the members of the RSSILA Subiaco Sub-Branch are remembered with honour.
Note: The Fallen Comrades includes sailors and soldiers from outside Subiaco. It is not possible to create a Roll of Honour on this basis.
