Flight Sergeant Alexander John Hine of 11 Squadron RAAF, or Jack as he was known, was born at Beverley Western Australia in November 1915.
He had a brother and four sisters; they were the children of John and Kathleen Hine and they resided at Beverley.
He attended Beverley Presentation Catholic school and after leaving he married Nellie Pike. They had one child, Kevin and they lived at Brookton.
He enlisted at Perth in September 1941 and as his service record is not available it is not known where he trained or when he was posted to 11 Squadron.
Catalina A24-29, with ten crew on board took off from Groote Eylandt on 28 April 1944 for a raid on Manokwari.
Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off; there are reported sightings but the plane has not been found.
Flight Sergeant Alexander John Hine, service number 415327 wireless operator - air gunner of 11 Squadron RAAF was killed in action on 28 April 1944 in New Guinea. He was 28 years of age.
