Biography presented during plaque dedication:

Sergeant Graham Montgomery Walker of 10 Squadron was born in October 1916, the second of three sons of Colin and Constance Walker of Mount Lawley.

He attended Perth Boys school and left after gaining his junior university certificate. His recreational pursuits included cricket, golf and swimming, gaining his bronze medallion in 1931.

From an early age he had shown a keen interest in radio and commenced a radio engineers course.

After he qualified he worked with C. S. Batey and Company and later with W.J. Lucas country service.

In 1937 he met his future wife Margaret and they married a year later.

He enlisted in September 1940 in the RAAF as a w/t operator, he was the first among the three brothers to enlist.

He trained at Point Cook and Mount Gambier before leaving for the UK in January 1941.

He was assigned to 10 Squadron, flying Sunderlands out of Mountbatten airfield.

Graham also qualified as an air gunner and was promoted to sergeant.

The primary role of the Sunderlands was the interception of U-boats leaving their bases in France.

Sergeant Graham Walker, service number 17645, was killed in action over the Atlantic Ocean on 20 May 1943. He was 26.
