Biography abstract:
Lewis Lindsay Bateman (12/10/1880-22/6/1963) was born in Fremantle. His grandparents arrived in Western Australia in 1829 and 1830.
His family's business house was one of the earliest established in Western Australia. He joined his father in business after some time with H.M. Customs.
He was Chairman of Fremantle Harbour Trust and president of the Perth Chamber of Commerce. He also held farming and pastoral interests.
He married Gertrude Mariane Hammond and had six children.
Mr Lewis Bateman was a member of the Western Australian Centenary Committee in 1929.
