Biography abstract:
James Albert Dimmitt (21/6/1888 - 29/1/1957) was born in Richmond, Victoria. He was educated at state schools and technical college in Victoria.
He came to Western Australia in 1911, worked as a salesman in 1912 and a clerk in 1914.
He became director of Armstrong Dimmitt Ltd., WA Match Co. Ltd and several other companies. He was a member of the original board of WA Airlines Ltd.
Mr Dimmitt was Member of the Legislative Council for Suburban province 1938-1953. From 1941-1944 he was Squadron Leader Air Training Corps and Agent General for WA 1953-57.
James Dimmitt was a member of many community organisations, Rotary, president of the Royal Aero Club (1926-36), director and president of WA Blind Welfare Association, and foundation president of the Guide Dogs Association.
He was known to enjoy sailing and golf.
Mr James Dimmitt was a member of the Western Australian Centenary Committee (Aerial group) in 1929.
