Biography abstract:

Mr John Ewan Gray (8/5/1883 - 10/8/1951) was born on the Island of Tanna (part of the New Hebrides) and came to South Australia in 1888 with family.

He came to Western Australia as an officer of the Union Bank in 1905 and was posted to the country in 1907.

He spent eight years in Bridgetown during which time he became a livestock auctioneer.

In 1915, he joined Elders, Shenton & Co, which became Elder Smith and Co. Ltd in 1918. In 1919, he took over the management of the livestock department.

At different times he was vice president and treasurer of the Royal Agricultural Society and was made a life member.

Mr Gray served on several of the Western Australian Centenary Committee groups (Executive; chairperson of Agriculture and pastoral industry, mining, forest and marine products; Finance) in 1929.
