Biography abstract:
William Henry Vincent (1862 - 7/4/1937) was educated at Presbyterian School, South Yarra before joining his father in the building trade.
In 1886, he went to the United States for two years to study the latest building methods. When he returned, he and his father were involved in some major projects in Victoria and New South Wales, including some fine homesteads in the Riverina.
He came to Western Australia in 1896, where he set up the business R.P. Vincent & son. He was involved in building the Perth Public Hospital, Supreme Court and the Horseshoe Bridge before gaining railway building contracts.
His business, with various take-overs, became McLean Bros and Rigg, of which he was managing director.
He had many interests including three years as president of the Master Builders' Association, chairman of Children's Hospital Board, director WA Airways Ltd, council member of WA Automobile Club and member of the Kings Park Board.
He owned several winning horses and was a keen attender at the horse racing track.
Mr Vincent was a member of the Western Australian Centenary Committee (Historical, Arts, Science and Pageantry group) in 1929.
