Biography abstract:
William Francis Lathlain (25/9/1862 - 30/10/1936) was born in Clunes, Victoria and came to Western Australia in 1896 as a warehouse manager.
He became president of Perth Chamber of Commerce 1912-13. He bought an interest in Economic Stores, later becoming sole proprietor and managing director 1919-32.
Meanwhile, he was Mayor of Perth (1917-23, 1930-32) and entered Parliament representing metropolitan-suburban 1926-32.
Lathlain was state chairman of Commonwealth War Loans Committee and due to his efforts and dedication on this project, the Returned Services League (RSL) elected him Warden of the State War Memorial.
The suburb of Lathlain, Western Australia is named in his honour.
The Hon. Sir William Lathlain MLC was a member of the Kings Park Board in 1929 during the Western Australia Centenary celebrations.
