Biography abstract:
James Thomas Franklin (25/10/1854 - 1/9/1940) was born in England and arrived in New South Wales with his parents in 1856.
In 1870 he entered the building trade in Sydney and came to Western Australia in 1894 as a builder/contractor in partnership with James Finlay.
He owned the Enterprise Steam Joinery and timber mill at Keysbrook.
Mr Franklin was a member of the Perth City Council 1905-23, Mayor of Perth 1923-29, Lord Major 1929-30 and again 1932-34. His parliamentary career for Metropolitan Province 1928-1940.
The Hon. Lord Mayor James Franklin CMG was a member of the Kings Park Board in 1929 during the Western Australia Centenary celebrations. He was also a member of the Western Australian Centenary Commitee (Executive; and Chairperson of the Manufactures and commerce group).
