Biography abstract:
John Nicholson (2/11/1868 - 16/9/1941) was born in Glasgow, Scotland and was educated there and Edinburgh University.
He came to Western Australia in 1896 and founded the legal firm Nicholson and Nicholson.
He wanted to build a reputation of a shrewd businessman focusing his interests on mining, timber and pearling industries.
He became a Perth City Councillor 1901-14 and was Mayor 1915. Mr Nicholson entered Parliament for Metropolitan Province in 1918 as a member of the Legislative Council and remained until his death in 1941.
For some time, the Hon. John Nicholson MLC was chairman of the Executive of Red Cross WA.
The Hon. John Nicholson, MLC was a member of the Kings Park Board in 1929 during the Western Australia Centenary celebrations.
