Biography abstract:
Arthur Harrison Macartney (1886 - 10/2/1941) was described a "popular official" in a 'Daily News' newspaper item that announced his death.
He joined public service in 1903 and among the several positions he held was that of West Australian Government representative at the Wembley exhibition. He had been secretary of the department since its inauguration in 1934, and played an important part in the drive by the State Government for secondary industrial development.
Mr Macartney was said to be widely known and held in great esteem by a large circle of friends and associates.
He played a prominent part in rowing circles in this State. He was president of the Swan River Rowing Club, of which he was captain for many years, and vice-president of the WA Rowing Association. He represented Western Australia in interstate rowing and was a member of the 1910, 1911 and 1914 State crews. He also played football for the Perth Club.
Mr Arthur Macartney was Secretary of the Western Australian Centenary Committee in 1929.
