Biography abstract:

Robert Oswald Law (20/9/1867 - 22/9/1947) was born in Ballarat, Victoria. He was trained by his father as a contract engineer and came to Western Austraila in 1881.

His first contract here was to build the Fremantle jetty for the state government. He was involved in the Perth to Pinjarra and Collie railways and the construction of principal jetties along the WA coastline from Busselton to Wyndham.

In Victoria, he constructed Princes Station and Ocean Piers at Port Melbourne.

Robert Law was instrumental in founding secondary industries in WA, some of which were Swan Portland Cement, Metropolitan Brick Co. Ltd, Stoneware Pipe and Pottery Co. Ltd.

He had a fine record of patriotic and social service - president of the Children's Hospital 1921, first president of Builders' and Contractors Association, president of Employers' Federation for seven years and a patron of the Royal Automobile Club.

During WW1 he was chairman of Board of Area Management Ministry of Munitions and chairman of the WA division of Australian Comforts Fund.

He was also on the Kings Park Board (1932-41) and Law Walk, Kings Park is named after him.

Mr Robert Law was a member of the Western Australian Centenary Committee in 1929.
