Biography abstract:

Thomas Nisbet (10/3/1882 - 4/7/1962) was born in St Rollox, Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Scotland. He came to Western Australia in 1906 and settled in Claremont.

He worked in the trade of process block maker and then moved to the Lands Department.

He then went to the Agricultural Bank and later became associated with RT Robinson KC as secretary to the then new Council for Industrial Development (later Department of Industries).

Mr Nisbet was secretary to Chamber of Manufacturers from 1918-1939. An intensely practical man, he was strong in his agitation for the advancement of local products.

He is quoted as saying for the producers "the products of the soil need to have the raw materials converted into a finished article ready for consumption using local secondary industries" and "the use of Western Australian products meant the advancement of Western Australia".

Mr Thomas Nisbet was a member of the Western Australian Centenary Committee (Manufactures and commerce group) in 1929.
