Biography abstract:
Seybert Joseph Hayward (11/5/1883 - 18/11/1946) was born in Brompton Park, Adelaide.
He came to WA with his mother in 1896 and attended night classes at St James School.
At the age of 17, he joined the Railways Department as a clerk. He was associated with the traffic branch of the railways for 11 years, followed by several different Government departments.
In 1921, he was in charge of the Tourist Bureau and introduced the slogan 'See Western Australia first'.
He was the secretary of the Rottnest Island Board, a councillor of the South Perth municipality and a keen West Perth football club supporter.
Mr Hayward was a member of the Western Australian Centenary Committee in 1929.
