Biography abstract:

Mr George Pitt-Morison (misspelt Pitt-Morrison) (31/8/1861 - 4/9/1946) was born in Melbourne, Victoria where he became a painter and engraver.

He was in Western Australia as the Chief Curator of the Western Australian Museum, Art Gallery, a position he held through the 1920s and 1930s.

Mr Pitt-Morison is best known today for his painting 'The Foundation of Perth, 1829' which was commissioned as part of Western Australia's centenary and presented to the Art Gallery in 1929.

He also designed the Australian stamp which was issued for Western Australia's centenary. Mr George Pitt-Morison was a member of the Centenary Committee (Historical, Arts, Science and Pageantry) in 1929.
