Biography abstract:
James Mortimer Macfarlane (12/10/1865 - 16/5/1942) was born and educated in Victoria, followed mining pursuits in Victoria until the 1890s then formed Bacchus Marsh Concentrate Milk Co., Melbourne.
He came to Western Australia in 1897 and joined the firm of Walker, Wilson & Co., established a butter factory in Busselton, dairy produce business in Fremantle then transferred to Perth.
Mr Macfarlane was a member of the Foods Standards Committee from 1910.
He founded a dairy produce factory at Capel in 1915, was chairman of WA Pasture Improvement Committee of Australia and on the Dairy Produce Board 1935-40.
He also held many state positions, including treasurer of the War Patriotic Fund, president of the Royal Agricultural Society, on Perth City Council (1915-22), National Party president 1930, MLC for Metropolitan Province (1922-28) and then Metropolitan Suburban Province (1930-42).
Mr James Macfarlane was a member of the Western Australian Centenary Committee in 1929.
