Biography abstract:
James Cunningham (28/12/1879 - 4/7/1943) was born in Warabraer, South Australia and had little formal education.
From 1899, he was prospecting and mining at Norseman and from 1905 at Boulder.
From 1914-16 he was the fulltime secretary for the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Federation Miners Union.
In 1917, he was the State Treasurer, Federated Miners Employees Association.
From July 1916-May 1922, he was MLC for North East Province and MLA Kalgoorlie from 1923-36.
He held ministry portfolios of Water Supply and Agriculture and Goldfields.
In 1938, he became Commonwealth Senator for Western Australia until July 1943. He was Deputy leader ALP in Senate 1940-41 and President of Senate 1941-43.
The Hon. James Cunningham, MLA was Minister for Goldfields in 1929 during the Western Australia Centenary celebrations.
