Biography abstract:
John Collings Willcock (9/8/1879 - 7/7/1956) was born in Frogmore, New South Wales and educated at Sydney High School.
He came to WA in 1897 and was employed on Fremantle Harbour works (1979-99).
He worked in varying capacities on Western Australian Government Railways, as an engine cleaner (1899-1901), fireman in Geraldton (1902-12) and an engine driver (1912-17) before moving to Perth.
He was a union representative and delegate at conferences and an executive member of the Australian Workers' Union 1917-23.
The Hon. John Willcock MLA was Premier of Western Australia from 1936 to 1945, when he retired due to ill health.
Mr Willcock was the Minister for Railways in 1929 during the Western Australia Centenary celebrations.
